During first years of development, a child’s primary interest lies in helping adults do their everyday activities. Practical Life activities were developed to capture this interest while teaching children how to be independent members of their family. Children demonstrate a high level of order, pride, and ability to take responsibility. Their sense of independence begins to increase as they develop fine motor skills, respect for the community, classmates and teachers. Practical Life activities not only lay a framework for the Montessori classroom but for life in general.
